At the end of 2016, I've decided to only purchase cruelty-free beauty products in the future. The animal lover is a lot bigger in me than the beauty enthusiast, and I just couldn't turn a blind eye to this any more. I'm not saying it has been easy since then, and I even had some slip-ups, but I think I'm on the right path.

The whole journey started with a PETA video, where they were urging everyone to go cruelty-free. When I saw the footage from different labs where they do test on animals my heart went out for all those lovely creatures. Why should they suffer for ‘our beauty’, especially when at this age with our technology there are other ways to test those products. As much as I love makeup and beauty products, I don’t want to be the cause of why those animals suffer. You could see the pain and fear in their eyes and by the time the video finished I was crying. I love animals, I had dogs around me since I was a baby and I kept several other pets throughout the years. Just the thought of them being tortured broke my heart.
There are so many great cruelty-free brands out there, I would rather support them. There are companies, who are cruelty-free, but they have a sister company, who isn’t. Everyone has the right to decide whether they support them, or not. I personally would still buy their products as they are still cruelty-free and I think it also shows to the sister companies over time, that the cruelty-free branches sell better (hopefully).

I know a lot of people will go now telling me, that why not go vegan then, loads of animals live in horrible conditions, just so we can eat meat, eggs and diaries. I know. And as selfish as it will sound, I just can’t give up meat (yet). I might get there step by step, I’m not sure. But just going cruelty-free in my product choices, is a good enough start. Also, I will try to get vegan alternatives where it’s available, but I could never cope with really drastic changes, I can’t turn around everything so quickly. If you can Kudos to you!
I would also like to mention, that I will still try to use up my products from brands like MAC, Maybelline etc, just because I have a rather large collection. As an aspiring makeup artist and lover of everything makeup related, I simply can’t throw that many products away, as I’ve invested so much money in it. But once they are used up they’ll be truly gone as long as the brand doesn’t go cruelty-free. So excuse me please, if they pop up on the blog every now and then.
I would also like to mention here, that I will only ever provide a link for the cruelty-free products in my posts, so if something won’t be linked, you know why…

There are loads of guides and materials online to help you out when going cruelty-free. Some of the most obvious ones are Peta and Leaping Bunny. Other than that I love Suzi from Cruelty-free Kitty and Tashina from Logical Harmony. Also, Google is your friend, so if you are in doubt just look it up. Usually, I like to check a couple of pages, just to be completely sure.
Before I actually started looking into the topic I had this idea in my head, that going cruelty-free would be expensive. Oh my was I wrong? Of course, there are high-end animal-friendly brands, like Charlotte Tilbury,Kevyn Aucoin, Hourglass or Too Faced, but on the high street end of the spectrum we’ll see brands like Elf, Nyx, Gosh, Makeup Revolution, Barry M or Milani (available online in the UK). All of them are cruelty free! See, it’s not bad at all!Do you have any tips for me?
Have a nice day!
