I'm not gonna lie, I was drawn to this kit because I'm a 90s baby and I was indeed born in 1993. I know, I really am that easily fooled and sucked in...Before purchasing the duo I did a quick swatch party on my hand, as I always managed to somehow skip over this shade in the store. Upon swatching, I was quite sure I have no other lipsticks in this shade so I could justify my purchase.
I always loved Urban Decay’s system of selling matching lipsticks and lip pencils as it makes life so much easier. Many brands sell both without corresponding names, leaving you to rummage through an entire collection trying to find that perfect match. No such problem over here.
The Ultimate Pair contains a lipstick and lip pencil duo of the shade 1993. They have two more shades and I’m tempted, even though I have more lipsticks than I can use. I think these were part of their Christmas collection.
Both products have a lovely creamy formula. If you are into a more firm lip pencil, then the Urban Decay formulation is definitely not the one for you, but I personally don’t mind it with lighter colours and it feels comfortable upon applying. The lipstick is what they call a comfort matte formula and that really is what it is. It glides on like a cream but stays matte and is comfortable to wear, doesn’t dry out my lips like some others do ( MAC lipsticks typically do that to my lips).
Despite the consistency, the duo is really long lasting, they even survived me eating with some slight fading. It fades evenly, it doesn’t leave any patches behind. First I apply the lip liner all over my lip and then go over with the lipstick. I’m not sure if it would be just as longlasting if you use one or the other.
Urban Decay describes the colour as a medium brown, but if you are pale like me, it is quite a grungy, darker (real 90s) brown.
Since I was sure I have nothing quite like it in my collection I had a quick swatch around and I was right. I have no lipsticks in this colour although the Charlotte Tilbury lip pencil in the shade Iconic nude seems to be exactly the same. Iconic nude is an even softer formula, but that’s about the only difference.
What do you think? Have you tried any lip products from Urban Decay before?
Have a lovely day!
